TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO.

(From “The Guardian,” Sept. 20,1905.)

Ministers’ Association. —The Ministers’ Association met at the Manse on Monday afternoon, when there was a good attendance of members. The Rev. A. Peters presided. Arrangements were made to observe October 29 as Citizens’ Sunday, and to have a general exchange of pulpits. A very practical paper was read by the Rev. G. F. Stockdill on “How to make our preaching acceptable to God and a blessing to our people.” The New High School. —There was a goodly assemblage at the High School grounds yesterday afternoon, when the ceremony in connection with the laying of the foundation stone of the new school building took place. Among those present were the Rev. G. B. Inglis (chairman of the Board of Governors), the Mayor (Mr H, Davis), the Revs. E. Whitehouse, R. T. Hall and W. L. Salter, and Messrs John Studholme, D. Thomas and C. Reid. There was also a number of ladies present. The scholars were ranged l in front of the building, and flanked on either side by the Borough School children and Hampstead cadets. The ceremony was performed by the Mayor. Under the stone were placed copies of the papers circulating in the district, together with a half-penny, penny, sixpence and shilling of King Edward’s reign, and a threepenny piece of earlier, mint ip memory of Queen Victoria the Good. - Tinwald Cricket Club. —The annual meeting l of the Tinwald Cricket Club was held last evening. The election of officers resulted' as follows:—Patron, Mr J. C. N. Grigg; president, Mr C. Doherty; .vice-presidents, Messrs G. Morrison, J. Studholme, E. Grigg, Jas. Gudsell, S.. and D. Thomas, EL Davis, J. McLachlan, M.H.R., J. A. Clothier, and W. Cobb;; club captain, Mr H. Millicliamp; secretary and treasurer,' Mr S. J. Gudsell; committee, Messrs A. Moody,, G. McKenzie, G. Culverhouse, W. / Helem, A. Millichamp, H. Mitchell and S. Culverhouse. The subscription was fixed at 4s for seniors and 2s 6d for juniors. It was decided to jut down a concrete pitch, and to sunoort the formation of a Cricket Association. "
