SIXTH ANNUAL FESTIVAL. ■'.' THE OPENING SESSIONS. DANCING AND ELOCUTION. The sixth, annual festival promoted by the Ashburton Competitions Society was opened at His Majesty's Theatre at 10 o'clock this morning, when dancing and elocutionary sections claimed the attention of judges. • There is every indication that the festival' will be even more successful than the five that have gone before, and it certainly will not .be for want of preparedness on the part of the Society's officials. Arrangements have been well carried out and as the entries constitute a record (815, against 717 last year), patrons are assured of hearing something unusually good in whatever section they are interested. The official opening will take place at 7 o'clock this evening, when the speakers, will be the Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith).. the County Chairman (Mr H. O. B. Withell)., the President of the Society (Mr A. P. Raven) and Mr J>. Jones, M.F. The judges will be introduced at this ceremony.
