GANGSTERS’ ARSENAL
BIG HAUL IN NEW YORK. BOMBS AND MACHINE-GUNS. PISTOLS AS FOUNTAIN-PENS. (United Press Association—-Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 25. The biggest arsenal of gangsters’ weapons ever seen in New York was discovered: when detectives trailed and detained a fashionable sedan driven by the wife of a certain notorious criminal. There were bombs enough to destroy the whole of Broadway, and what looked like harmless fountainpens were actually pistols discharging .22 calibre bullets. There were also hand grenades, steel vests, machine-guns and other war material. Three men were arrested.
The owner of the car himself, however, sailed for Ireland recently. . He had been arrested 23 times, five times for murder. His total time served in prison is but one month.
