LOOKING BACK.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From "Guardian,” August 26, 1905). Winslow School Concert.—A concert was held last night in the Winslow schoolroom, in aid of the prize fund. The following contributed to the programme :—Misses Collins, Tippett, Roberts, Mesdlames McLeod and Tippett, and Messrs E. Hughes, T. Harper, O. Drennan, D. Moriarty, Anderson, Thompson and Trail. On behalf of the committee, the chairman (Mr T. A. C. Pearce) thanked the performers. A dance followed, music being supplied by Mrs Cobb and Mr E. Hughes. Tinwald Town Board.—The monthly meeting of the Tinwald Town Board was held last night. Present—Messrs C. Doherty (chairman), J. Hampton, J. A. Clothier, W. Lagan and T. Williams. It was decided to prosecute the owners of unregistered dogs, and to obtain the assistance of the police in connection with offenders riding bicycles on the footpaths. Produce Prices.—The following are ruling prices for produce in Ashburton to-day:—Poultry: Roosters, 2s 6d, ducks 4s 3d per pair. Pigs—W'eaners up to 6s, porkers up to 20s, baconers to 37s 6d. Potatoes —Derwents 16s to 18s, Up-to-Dates 15s to 18s, Kidneys 15s to 18s per sack.
