NORTH ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. TITLE WON BY ANDREWS. LONDON, August 23. In the North England tennis championship, E. D. Andrews (New Zealand) defeated Kingsley (the holder) 7-5, 6-5. Gregory defeated C. E. Malfroy (New Zealand) 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. In the final of the singles, Andrews beat Gregory 6-0, 9-7. In the men’s doubles semi-final Andrews and Malfroy beat Lester and Peters 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, Gregory and Kingsley beat C. G. Fletcher and J. H. L. Fletcher 6-0, 6-2. In the mixed doubles, fourth round, Andrews and Miss Fry beat Lister and Miss Dyson 8-6, 6-2. Malfroy and Mrs Hawkins beat David and Miss Heeley 7-5, 10-8. In the doubles, Gregory and Kingsley beat Andrews and! Malfroy 6-1, 6-3. TOURNAMENTS IN AMERICA. . (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 24. At the tennis tournament at-Forest Hills, with the first, set a walk-over for Miss Betty Nuthall (England), the onlookers were treated to a spectacular rally by Mrs Harper in the second set, when, with a series of dashing, effective placements from the forehand and much forcing of the Englishwoman into errors, she ran up a 4-2 lead, but she had already tired badly, and Miss Nuthall calmly pulled out to 5-° Although in the last game Airs Harper fought desperately to deuce several times, she was unable to withstand the Englishwoman’s hard strokes. The match lasted 36 minutes. The finals have been postponed owing to rain. At Newport, Tilden defeated Allison, 6-1, 0-6, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
