THEFT OF BOOTS.

AN OFFENDER AT TIMARU. (Special to the "Guardian.") TIMARU, August 18. Pleading that his wife and two children, aged fifteen months and three weeks respectively, would starve if he were sent to gaol, Jeremiah Patrick Evans appeared in the Police Court to-day charged iwth the theft of boots valued at 30s, from a shop on Friday night. The accused had four previous convictions, according to Detective Studholme, who arrested him. Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M„ gave Evans another chance, ordering Trim to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months, a conidtion being that he should take out a prohibition order immediately.
