A vote of thanks, to Mrs Low was carried by acclamation. LAURISTON. A most enjoyable dance was held in the Memorial Hall at Launston under the auspices of the Launston Tennis Club The hall was brightly decorated and the dancing went ™th %swmg to music supplied! by Mrs Mitchell's> Baud. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss E. Maidens and Mr E. Ashby. Mr 1. Church was M.C. MAYFIELD. The monthly meeting of the Mayfield Branch of the Women's Institute was held in the Band Hall on Wednesday afternoon, the president (Mrs Jt. Austin) presiding over a attendance. The Geraldine Branch wrote asking if the Mayfield Branch could donate a portion of its funds to defray the travelling expenses or Miss Stops. A number of remits to be discussed at the Dominion Conference m Wellington were read. Mrs McDonald, .of Orari. gave an interesting and instructive address on the art or toy and glove making, at the conclusion of which a vote of thanks was passed to her A competition for the best homemade toys, judged by ballot, was won by Mrs R, Austin (elephant), with -Miss Gillies (squirrel) second and Mrs T F Sewell (squirrel) third. Further arrangements were made for the combined Mayfield and Mt. Somers Exhibition of arts. A roll call on household duties caused much interest and merriment. The hostesses for the' afternoon were Mesdames L. R, Harrison, E Biddick, and Miss McLauchlan. The St. Mary's Guild met in the church on Wednesday afternoon when the sewing for St. Saviour s Orphanage was distributed among members Arrangements were made tor the annual meeting in September At the conclusion the Rev. H. M Cocks addressed the members of the Motneis Union.
