£4B IN NOTES STOLEN.

BOARDING-HOUSE ROBBERY

(Special to the "Guardian.") AUCKLAND, August 17. The theft of £4B in notes from a Carlton Gore Road boarding-house has been reported to the police. The money comprised one £lO note, three £o notes and the remainder in singles. Ihe notes were left in a wallet which was hidden by the proprietress on a mantelshelf in a dark corner of her room, which is in the front portion of the house, only -a few yards from the street. In front of the mantelpiece was placed a large wardrobe, so the thief would have tcomove this out ot position in order to get the wallet. Usually the proprietress keeps her money in a cashbox. This was the first occasion that she kept it in a wallet She had intended to ipaji a number ot accounts with the £4B, otherwise she would not have had the money in the house. The money had not been long in her bedroom before it was stolen. The proprietress spent some time in the kitchen superintending the cookin"- and on going to her room lor the monev found that it had disappeared. Nothing was disturbed. The circumstances are not such as .,. to . suggest that the theft was committed by the thief who recently raided board-ing-houses in Grafton Road and Symonds Street.
