PASSENGERS TRANSFER

ALL ON BOARD THE VENTURA SERIOUS PLIGHT OF THE TAHITI GREAT INRUSH OF WATER Scanty news has been received concerning the Rcyal mail steamer Tahiti, but the messages include one conveying the glad tidings that the passengers have been transferred to the Ventura. The Tahiti lost her propeller early on Saturday morning, and water began pouring in through the aperture. The pressure of water buckled one of the bulkheads in the engine-room yesterday morning, and as a precaution the passengers and crew were ordered to stand by the boats in readiness to abandon ship. The Norwegian ship Penybryn stood by all night. A wireless message from H.M.S. Veronica, at Fiji, received at 9.30 last night, stated that the Tahiti had developed a bad list, and could not last much longer. No further details on that poind have been received.
