THE PRIME MINISTER.

ATTENDANCE AT CONFERENCE. (Special to the "Guardian.") OHRISTCHURCH, August 16. The Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, stated this morning that he. will make his departeure from New Zealand by the Aorangi, from Auckland, on Tuesday, August 26. The full personnel of the party has not been finally decided upon, but the Prime Minister will be accompanied by Mrs Forbes, and Mr F. D. Thomson, permanent head of the Prime Minister s Department. . It is expected that the Prime Minister will reach London early in October, about three days before the Imperial Conference opens. He intends to return to the Dominion immediately after the conference is concluded.

ENTERTAINED AT LYTTELTON.

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

The Hon. G. W. Forbes was entertained by the residents or Lyttelton (his birthplace) at a social gathering on Saturday evening. The Mayor (Mr W. T. Foster), a school classmate of the guest, occupied the chair. He said Mr Forbes had been considered the champion of the school at games, especially excellent at fly-the-garter Mr Forbes, in his replv, spoke wholly of the old days, old friends and changed times since their school days Mr W. J- Toomev, an employee ot Mr Forbes's father, presented Mr Forbes with a silver cigarette case with the arms of Lyttelton inscribed on it. The Mayor also presented to Mr Forbes, for Mrs Forbes, a leather travelling cushion ornamented with a tiki in blue and red. .. . Mr J. McCombs gave a brief speech. Mr Forbes presented Mr Toomey with a square they had used in the sail loft of his father's business to square off sails.
