THE TAHITI DISABLED
LOSS OF A PROPELLER. VESSELS GOING TO ASSISTANCE. 460 MILES FROM RAROTONGA. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Radio advice was received by the Union Steam Ship Company this morning that the Royal mail steamer Tahiti, which left Wellington on Tuesday afternoon for fean Francisco lost a propeller at 4 p.m. to-day, when about 4bU miles from Rarotonga. The Tahiti has apparently broken down, and the company's Islands steamer Tofua, which left Suva yesterday for Nukualofa, and the steamer Ventura, en route from Sydney to San Francisco, are proceeding to her assistance. The Tofua has 128 passengers on board. MAKING SOME WATER. WELLINGTON, This Day. Advice has been received that the Tahiti at four this morning was iW miles from 'Rarotonga, en route to San Francisco. She had lost her star- . board propeller, and. the vessel was making some water in the after end through the aperture* . ~ Wireless communication is diincult during the hours of daylight, and further particulars may not be available until the evening. PASSENGERS TAKE TO THE BOATS AUCKLAND, This Day., Radio advice was picked up in Auckland at 5 a.m. to-day that the fteamer Tahiti had lost a propeller and was making water fast. , Her position was given as between 2CO and 400 miles off Rarotonga, \ later report, which has not been confirmed, was that the passengers had taken to the lifeboats.
