COACH-BUILDING EMPLOYEES. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 15. The Federated Coachworkers' and Wheelwrights' Union's application for a Dominion award is proceeding ini the Arbitration Court. The union wants a 44-hour week and a wage of 2s 6dl an hour. The employers propose a 47-hour week and a minimum journeyman's wage of 2s 3d an hour and that piecework may be worked in any branches of the trade, provided the rates fixed be such as to secure a competent worker at least 10 per cent, more than the minimum rate prescribed in the award. Among other counter-claims is the employment of female machinists in the trimming shops, at rates varying from 15s to £2 5s a week but the Court has ruled that his must be dealt with by cross citation.
