A HUNGER MARCH
DEMONSTRATION FIASCO. SIX AUSTRALIANS SET OUT. FROM CESSNOCK TO SYDNEY. (United Press Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY, July 20. The much-trumpeted hunger march on Sydney of the Unemployed Union at Cessnock, organised by two prominent Communists, began yesterday. Only six stalwarts, however, mustered, their comrades apparently lacking what Napoleon described as the 2 o’clock-in-the-morning courage. A heavy frost before dawn made the empty streets particularly uninspiring to even these enthusiasts, and the departure was delayed until the sun had taken. . the edge off the keen atmosphere. Even then no additions had come to the ranks when the marchers stepped off from the Communist headquarters, whose organisation had provided the men with new socks. One report added new boots, but this was doubtful, as they would tend to foot soreness, which would be incompatible with the resolution needed for the long trek. A crowd saw the men off, and some women accompanied them for a mile or so. It is stated that more will follow- on Monday when a lorry may carry the equipment.
