THE WEATHER.
RAW CONDITIONS AND RAIN. The sky yesterday morning became overclouded, and was soon followed by steady rain, which continued into the afternoon. Conditions cleared, and a frost of 9.7 degrees’ intensity set in. Heavy, ominous clouds covered the sky again this morning, and light rain was experienced during the afternoon. The atmosphere during the day was bitterly cold. The reading of the barometer at 9 o’clock this morning was 29.56 inches, as against 29.47 inches yesterday. The extreme temperatures yesterday were 44.8 and 28 degrees, as against 52.3 and 37.1 on Saturday. Heavy rain fell at Methven yesterday morning. Fifty points were recorded for the period ended at 9 a.m. to-day, when the weather was fine, following a sharp frost. TO-tiAY’S FORECAST. The following forecast was issued today : Indications are for southerly winds increasing from moderate to strong to a gale. The weather appears likely to be cloudy and unsettled, and to becoming colder soon, with rain and snow in places. The barometer is rising.
