LAND BALLOT

THE CLUNES SETTLEMENT. METHVEN DISTRICT AREA. SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS. The ballot was held at the Methven Courthouse yesterday. For the eight sections there were 30 applicants, with 74 applications for the various sections. This property, which was recently owned by the trustees of the late MiDaniel McKendry, and formed part ot the famous Springfield Estate, contained 426 acres. The property is situated 1$ miles from Methven, and a fair average of wheat grown is 40 bushels, while it has produced to 70 bushels per acre. A large number of people were present at the ballot. There was a good number of local applicants for all the sections, and their luck with the draw was very noticeable on both first and second draws. The successful ones were all first draws.
