MT. HUTT DISTRICT.

DECISIONS OF ROAD BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Mount Hutt Road Board was held yesterday, when there were present Messrs F. W . Ruddenldau (chairman), AV. W. •win, D. Hampton, R. J. S. AVilson and A. F. Marr. . The clerk reported that the maintenance staff had been engaged on formation work on O’Brien’s Road, while the contractor had commenced the shingling. Shingling of some of the worst of the Methven township roads had also been done. Grading had been started on the railway line road to Cairnbrae. The contractor for shingling the Back Track had completed this work, and the staff had spread the shingle with the grader. Patching work on the Rakaia River .Road, anil repairs, were needed to Quinn’s Road and through Higlibank township. The clerk reported that the amount of rates collected was £3126 12s stl out of <Xr total of £3216 1/s 4d le\iGd 3 representing 98.33 per cent. T * ie rates outstanding total £54 4s lid In reference to the revaluation of the district, the clerk presented a report showing that the rateable value for 1929 was £2,470,542, while under the new valuations it was £2,400,04J. There were 32 objectors to the assessments, and of this number 10 were rectified and accepted. The above figures include those rectified and accepted. The balance-sheet for the year ended March 31, 1930, was presented, -showing a substantial credit balance, and the result of the year’s working was considered very satisfactory. The Board considered the question of holding ia combined memorial seivice at the War Memorial on Anzac Hay, and the clerk was instructed to approach the Rev. Father Price. (Catholic) the Rev. Claud Brown (Anglican) and the Rev. R. Morgan (Presbyterian) with a view to making arrangements. The Ashburton County Council notified that the price for rats tails was reduced to threepence as from April 1. Transfers were approved as follow: From E. M. Coleman to A. H. Hargie and Mrs S. Richards to Mrs S. H. Richards; Mr J. T. Mangin was granted permission to plough his road frontage. Mr Marr gave notice of motion: “That the Board levy a rate of fivesixteenths of one penny in the pound for the year 1930-31.” Sitting as the Methven Cemetery Board, the clerk suggested that the grounds lie cleaned up as far as possible. The suggestion was agreed to.
