SURVEY STOPPED.

SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK. (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, April 7. It is reported: that the party which was engaged in completing the survey of the South Islam! Main Trunk railway has been withdrawn and sent to undertake, a survey of the proposed new Lewis Pass road.

On its recent visit of inspection to the railway works, the Marlborough Progress League came to the conclusion that the completion of the survey, so that contracts could he invited for bridging and tunnelling, was the most urgent requirement of the project, and representations to this effect were to he made-to the Minister. In view of the withdrawal of the survey party at this juncture, with the work far from complete, considerable uneasiness is being felt among those interested in the progress of the railway.
