PARROT DISEASE.

WANGANUI OUTBREAK.

OFFICIAL WARNING GIVEN.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 4

Although bacteriological evidence is negative so far, the history of the disease found among the parrots at Wanganui and the disease found in a human patient lends strong colour to the belief that it is psittacosis. This statement was made by headquarters officials of the Department of Health to-day. They have found that about 200 parrots were landed at Auckland at the end of January by an Australian dealer and distributed through the Dominion, the -Wanganui birds being part of the consignment. "People who have had parrots for years need not feel alarmed," stated a medical authority, "but those who acquired them within the last few months should take every precaution in handling, washing their hands after touching the birds. If a parrot shows signs of poor health they should immediately consult the nearest Health Officer."
