DUCHESS OF YORK.
KINDNESS TO AUSTRALIANS. COMMEMORATIVE PORTRAIT. LONDON, March 12. The kindness of the Duchess of York and the Strathmore family to wounded Australian soldiers at the time of the Great War, notably to those from Oastlemaine, Victoria,' who were nursed at Glands Castle, will bo commemorated by a portrait of the Duchess, which Mr James Quinn will paint in the autumn. Returned wounded' soldiers have long felt that their art gallery, solely devotr ed to Australian artists, was incomplete without a commemoration portrait of the Duchess, whose nursing achievements during the war are well-known. The director of the Art Gallery, through the Prime Minister of Australia (Mr J. H. Scullin) and the High Commissioner (Sir Granville Ryrie), has approached the Duchess, who consented to give six sittings. Mr Quinn was chosen to paint the portrait because be is from Castlema inc.
The portrait will be three-quarter length, but whether in day or evening dress has not yet been-decided.
