REDUCED SALARIES.
NEW SOUTH WALES ECONOMY. NATIONALISTS ACCEPT A "CUT." (United Press Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY. March 25. Members of the Nationalist Country Party have agreed to vote in favour of reducing salaries of members of the Legislative Assembly by 15 per cent. Cabinet members intend making a cut of at least- 15 per cent, on their own salaries. The Government's economy proposals when placed before a joint party meeting, showed that the I total saving of Ministerial and Parliamentary salaries, on a basis of 15' per cent, reductions,, would be about £IB,OOO a year. Members would each sacrifice £l3l ss. Other proposals definitely agreed on by Cabinet are the re-introduction of the 48-hour week, the return to the Saturday morning work by the Public Service, and a general cut in the salaries of all Government employees. In addition to a 10 per cent, salary cut, public servants will probably be asked to take one week off in 11 without pay, in order to avoid retrenchment.
