HINDS. A concert by Mrs McGregor’s concert party was held in the Hinds Hall, on Thursday evening. Mr presided over a large gathering. Every item was highly appreciated and encores were numerous. The programme was:—Selection, Ashburton Pipe Band; Highland Fling, Noelino Daniels and Mavis Wilson; song, Mr Laurenson: Seauntruibhais, Isabel and Margaret McGregor; burlesque, Mrs Chalmers and Mrs Wilson ; duet, Messrs Wilson and Laurenson; patter dance. Miss Bushell; monologue, Air A. H. Todd: operatic dance, Betty Gass and Noeline Daniels; concerted item, Mr Todd’s party; song, .Mr Wilson; instrumental item', Mr J. Rigby; song, Mrs Evans, skipping rope dance, Mavis Andrews, concerted item, Ashburton Pipe Band, A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs McGregor and the wish was expressed that they would give another concert in the near future. A dance followed, the hall being filled. WILLOWBY. The harvest festival was continued on Wednesday evening, when a social and conoprt were heir. There was a p-ood attendance, presided over by the Rev W. Grigg. The following was the programme:—Pianoforte solo, Miss Phyllis Lill; songs, Miss Nancy Bishop, Miss Brown, Miss Jean Lill, Mr Bishop, and Mr Ken Fowke; instrumental duets, Miss P. Lill and Air C. Corbett; vocal duet, Misses Nancy and Joy Bishop; elocutionary items, Mrs S. H. Lill, Aliss N. Bishop; quartettes, Alisses Nancy and Joy Bishop, "Messrs Bishop and Ken Fowke. The accompanists were Airs S H. Lill, Aliss Bishop, Aliss M. AI. Lill, and Aliss P. Lill. An address was delivered by Mr G. W. Leadley. Following the entertainment a successful sale of produce was conducted, after which supper was served. RAKAIA. The weather during the week has been very fine and warm. Yesterday a light north-wester blew, and the weather was unseasonably warm. About mid-afternoon the -wind fell, and a rather sudden change brought rain from the south, and the remainder of the day was dull and cold. The Rakaia river is still in good order for fishing, and during the week several local anglers were successful in catching good specimens of quinnat salmon. The opening meeting of the Rakaia branch of the .Mothers’ Union was held in St. Alark’s Schoolroom on Thursday afternoon. Airs Cooke was elected president in place of the Rev. J. C. Hawkswortli, who lias left for England. A letter was received from Airs Hawksworth conveying good wishes to members. The secretary was instructed to write a letter of sympathy to Airs AleCoy, who is ill. It was reported that Airs Cooke and Airs Hendersoni had attended a conference at Ashburton, where a paper on “The Children’s Prayers.” by Canon Hardman had been read. It was decided to discuss the paper at next meeting. Mrs Street reported that eleven members had attended the festival in Christchurch. It was decided to ask Airs F. A. Tooley to give an address at the'May meetingi It was reported that four members had been admitted in February.,Mrs Cooke, gave an interesting story of an incident m the life, of Sir Truest Sliackd'eton, and was accorded a vote of thanks. Afternoon tea was handed round.
