Referring to the threat of wine manufacturers to close their works owino- to the increased excise duty on fortified spirit for wine, the Prime Minister (Mr J. H. Scullin) said he regarded it pure “bluff,”' adding: “\Ye, not they* are governing this, country, and I would remind them that we have power to take any necessary action for the protection of growers. The Prime Minister continued: “Those shouting loudest have been caught with large quantities of foi rifled wine on hand, owing to their having taken undue advantages of the concessions granted up to the present. ’

STOCKS ON GROWERS’ HANDS. (Received This Day, 9,15 a.m.) ADELAIDE, This Day. Following AH Scull in’s statement, large wine manufacturers here announced that they would be closing immediately, rejecting 12,000 to 14,000 tons of grapes which will be leit on growers’ hands, also causing unemployment among grape pickers.
