HARVEST FESTIVAL.

THE METHODIST CHURCH. Har vest thanksgiving services in connection with the Baring Square -Methodist Church were celebrated yesterday. The front of the interior of the church was beautifully decorated with flowers, fruit, vegetables and corn, with a most pleasing effect. The congregations were large, the church being well filled at each service. The Rev. R. B. Tinsley was the preacher, and delivered two inspiring' addresses. At the morning service he spoke from the text St. Luke 12: 27, ‘‘Consider the lilies” ; and in the evening from Psalm 145: 16, and Romans 5: 20. He also specially addressed the children at tfie morning service. Special harvest hymns were sung, the choir, which was in strong force, under the baton of Mr H. Clemo, leading in effective manner. In the morning the service" was opened by the singing of the “Te Deum” by the choir, other anthems being, “I will feed Mv flocks” and “The Gloria.” At the eveiving service the choir sang the- following anthems: “Ye shall dwell in the land.” “Let the ‘Fields V>e Joyful,” “The M orks of God.” The quartette, “Nearer, Still Nearer,” was sung by Messrs H. Clemo. E. Hopwood, J. Corbett and W. Corbett. The solos were taken by Mrs Higgins, Miss Gaarder, Mrs Dobbie, Miss Chapman, and Messrs E. Hopwood and E. Porter. Mr J. Corbett was organist. ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH. There were Barge congregations at both morning and evening services at St. Andrew’s Church yesterday when the Rev. A. G. Irvine occupied the pulpit.* Special hymns and anthems were sung byn the choir, the soloists being Mrs E. G. Craighead and Mr H. Silvorwood. There was a large offering of vegetables and produce, and these will be forwarded-To the Presbyterian Orphanage in Christchurch. The sum of £l3 was taken in retiring collections and will be devoted to the fund to repair those Presbyterian churches on the West Coast damaged by the earthquake.
