RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE ARMY CHAMPIONSHIPS. FIRST AND SECOND PRACTICE. TRENTHAM, This Day. Excellent weather favoured the marksmen at Trentham this morning, when the second stage of the Army Championship, was proceeded with. There was delay at the mounds occasioned through the targets being enveloped in mist. The first practice, at 600 yards, deliberate, opened the shooting, the first detail haying a slight disadvantage as regards light. The second practice, Gop to 100 yards, fire with movement, proved strenuous. There were five .45second exposures of targets at 500, 300, 200 and 100 yards, the firing- positions being prone, kneeling, and standing, according to distance, the advance being at the double. . The best aggregate was that of Lieut. T. Denton (Air Force) 41, out of a possible 50. Lieut. Denton was King’s Medallist, in 1927, but was ineligible for the Belt, which is open, only to those on the active list of the Territorial Force. Visitors commented on the excellent physique of the competitors, whose conduct is exemplary.
