THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. MATCH AGAINST SOUTH ISLAND. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 11. lawn tennis match between the Australians and the South Island was commenced on the Otago Lawn Tennis Association’s new courts at Logan Park to-day, in fine weather, and before about 500 spectators. A strong south-west wind blew across the courts all the afternoon, militating against a
display of the highest order. . but despite this drawback, the exhibition reached a notable standard, and at times rose to a level of brilliancy. The Australians showed a sparkling exhibition of driving and volleying with occasional smashing. Following are the scores (Australian names mentioned first): — SINGLES. Kalms beat Rhodes-Williams, 6-3, 6-4. Sproule lost to Angas, 6-3, 1-6, 6-8. Teague beat Glanvilie, 6-2, 6-2. Donohoe lost to McDougall, 4-6, 4-6. DOUBLES. Kalins and Teague beat Angas and Rhodes-Williams, 6-0, 6-4. Sproule and Donohoe beat Glanvilie and McDougall, 6-2, 6-2.
