PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. WELLINGTON SECOND INNINGS. AVELLINGTON, This Day. The final day’s play in the Plunket Shield cricket match, Wellington v. Auckland, was opened to-day in fine weather, with a fresh southerly wind. Light rain overnight had had little effect on the wicket, which was still in excellent order. Hollings (32) and Foley (13) continued Wellington’s second innings (76 for two), .to the bowling 7 of Allcott, with the wind, and Wensley. > Progress was slow, though several byes helped to improve the total. Foley survived an appeal for lbw. in Wensley’s second oyer. Ninety appeared after a quarter of an hour’s play. At 11.30 Allcott clean-bowled Hollings, wliojiad played a sound defensive innings. Lowry was next. After playing a defensive innings for 55 minutes, Foley lifted Wensley to Gillespie at cover point. 98 —4—21. AlcLood was next and 100 went up after the innings had been in progress 145 minutes. At noon the score was 110 for four. Lowry and AfcLeod commenced to open opt, and with the score at 125 Anthony replaced Allcott (one for 31). The rate of scoring improyed, both batsmen playing confidently. At 144 Allcott went on again, vice AVensley (one for 32) and Alatheson went on with the wind. The score at 12.30 was 144 for four. Lowry continued to score freely, placing Alatheson nicely to leg.. but McLeod w 7 as slower, taking 80 minutes to reach 20. At the luncheon, adjournment' the score was 184 for four. Allcott and Anthony bowled after luncheon Two hundred appeared after the innings bad been in progress 230 minutes. The partnership had added a century. At 2.15 p.m. the score was 208 for four.
