A NARROW ESCAPE
CAR GOES OVER BANK. FINALLY CRASHES INTO HOUSE. (Special to the “Guardian.”) AUCKLAND, March 10. Six occupants of a motor-car had a narrow escape from serious injury l when a vehicle ran over two small banks anci crashed into a house at the corner of King street and Aitken Terrace, Kmgsland, at tei> o’clock last night, lire vehicle did not overturn. Severe injuries were received bv a young'woman, who also suffered from shock, yvliile another occupant received a small cut on one leg. The driver. H. Jackson, of Wellington Street, city and other passengers, _ including another woman, escaped uninjured. The car was owned by Jackson and had been driven from To Kuiti. it was turning into Aitken Terrace to draw up when, skidding in loose metal, it dropped several feet over- a bank on to the footpath, then crashed through a fence, breaking a reinforced concrete post in its passage, dropped five or six feet, and came to rest against the front of the corner house. The owner Mrs L. Webb, was asleep in the front room against which the vehicle crashed, and received a severe shock by her abrupt awakening. The front of the car was crumpled up, but the wall oi the dwelling was only scratched and dented. The radiator of the car was broken, tlie fronf axle'' smashed # and the mudguards twisted.' The windscreen however, was not shattered. This is the third accident that lias happened at the corner, which owing to the steeji grade and loose metal, is very difficult to negotiate. In one instance a motor-lorry laden witli coal crashed into the verandah of the house, and in the second case a milk cart rail into the fence.
