TIMELY RESCUE.

WOMAN NEARLY DROWNED. (Special to the "Guardian.") WELINGTON, March 7. Noticing some children looking over the outer side of the ferry steamer Cobar when it pulled in to Day's Bay wharf yesterday afternoon, Mr J. Kirk acting engineer, went to them, thinkjir.r that they must he interested in some fish. It was a drowning woman, however, and he promptly went overboard to the rescue. Leading Seaman Ormes came to assist with a lifebuoy and the woman. Mrs Wrigley, of Ghuznee Street, Wellington, was got to the wharf steps, attended to and cared lor at the pavillion. Later she was removed by the .ambulance to the Wellington 1 Hospital, her condition being still serious. Mrs Wrigle.M is of middle age.
