(From Our Own Correspondent). RAKAIA. * ■■■ The monthlv meeting of the Rakaia Presbyterian " Women's Missionary Union was held in St. Andrew s Schoolroom on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Morrison presided over a good attendance. Interesting letters . were read from Sister M. K\ Heather (Whangarei) and* Miss A. E. Henderson (Jagadhri). Several parcels ot clothing were handed in to be sent to Miss Doull for distribution among the Maoris. It was decided to ask Mrs Morgan (Meihven) to address the April meeting, and to give an account of the work done at the annual conference at present being held in Dunedin. Later a meeting of the Ladies Guild was held when furtler arrangements were made in connection with the Presbvterian "Women's All "Week Fair which will be held in the Town Hall at'the* end of the present month. Several parcels of goods were handed in for the various stalls. Afternoon tea was served, and it was decided to meet next Wednesday. :■ \ i . • '• ... RUAPUNA. * The swimming carnival held last Saturday proved a great success, £l3 being taken at the gate. The races for the aggregate cups will be finished to-day. Other races will be held for prizes given by Messrs T. D. Burnett, M.P., Baker, Thompson, - and Beau-, mont. \ The school picnic was held at the Ruapuna Domain to-day. The School Committee arranged special swimming races, running, and other sports. Fifty-six points of-rain fell oh Monday and Tuesday. The rainfall for the month of February was 200 points. COLDSTREAM. The Coldstream Road Board met on Thursday, when there were present: Messrs G. Tait (chairman), W. M. Bruce, J. W. Dell, J. C. Guinness and W. McKeage. "A letter was received from the Commissioner or Crown Lands in reply to an inquiry of the Board regarding the right -to lease a portion of the Pound Reserve for building sites, stating that under the provisions of the Public, Reserves, Domains and National Parks Act, 1928, the erection of buildings on public reserves other than for public purposes, is not allowed. The Valuation Department forwarded the revised valuation roll. Notices of transfer were received as follows: Mrs F. A. McKenzie to Mrs. E- J. McDowell, 6eetien 33, 14 acres 2 roods, town ol Hinds; trustees of the late Jamet Cow, lease of 488 acres 1 rood and 399 acres 2 roods to W. H. Simmons, of Lowcliffe. The Ashburton branch of the Plunket Society applied for a grant toward the cost of erecting more suitable premises. It was decided to make a donation. The question of repairs to the Hinds River crossing- at Boundary Road was discussed. Mr Dell informed the Board that the Longbeach Board was 'agreeable to put in some protective work, and it was decided to write to that Board stating that the Coldstream Board would contribute one-third of the cost up to £3O. The clerk's report dealt principally with .routine work carried out by the surfacemen during January and February. The action of the chairman and Mr McKeage in the employing of a tractor for grading purposes was aoproved. The clerk reported that only £5 16s 2d now remained unpaid on the currefct year's rates. An inspection was madt by the Board on Brogden,'s Road, where water from a creek is overflowing. It*was resolved to obtain legal advice oft the matter.
