NOT A STRIKE.
THE TROUBLE AT TAWA FLAT. MEN HOLD STOP-WORK MEETING* (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 7. The stoppage at Tawa Flat was not a strike. It was decided to hold a stop-work meeting/to discuss the conditions under which the men J are working, and as three shifts are running, the stoppage was from midnight to midnight. - As a result of the leliberations, ! it was decided that the deputation endeavour "to meet the Minister of Public AVorks on his return from the north next week and place the men's grievances before him. In a statement explaining that the stop-work meeting was called owing to the unsatisfactory nature of the reply of the Department to the men's representations regarding their conditions, Mr Cook (secretary to the New Zealand Workers' Union) says that to safeguard against water rising in the tunnel during the meeting, all necessary men, such as pump men and electricians, were notified that they should continue working. It was not a strike, but just a matter of convenience so that all the men could attend. :
