CRICKET.

M.C.C. v. HAWKE’S BAY. DULEEPSINHJI SCORES 242. NAPIER, February 2. The largest crowd that has been seen at a cricket match in Napier for several years witnessed a fine exhibition of batting on the oart of the Englishmen, particularly Duleepsinhji. who gave easily his best display on the tour. His batting was an education, and the manner in which he played his strokes on both sides of the wicket was a treat watch. Every stroke had the finish and polish of the cricketer of class. For his 242 lie was at the wickets 189 minutes, and made 41 boundary strokes. When Hawke’s Bay secured the first three wickets for 107 runs prospects looked promising, but Duleepsinhji and Benson put a different complexion on the game. The latter was content to play very steadily, while his made runs. Benson reached 55 in 107

minutes before he went lbw. The partnership realised 210 runs. Scores: — M.C.C. First Innings.
