YOUNG BOY SUCCUMBS.

INJURED BY EXPLODING BENZINE. - CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. David Jasman, aged 8, son of a farmer at Hororata, died to-day as the result of burns received from an explosion of benzine. CAR PLUNGES OVER BANK. / <« ONE GIRL SERIOUSLY INJURED. WAIPUKURAU, This Day. vA serious motor accident occurred on Pukeora Sanatorium Hill yesterday afternoon. A car driven by Mr J. J. Mansfield, of Palmerston North, containing Mrs Mansfield and three children and Mr Mansfield's niece, proceeding from Palmerston North to Napier, plunged over a 30-foot bank owing to a steering rod breaking. Mrs Mansfield was thrown through the windscreen, sustaining extensive cuts, abrasions and shock. Her daughter was basly crushed about the chest and body and was admitted to the Waipukurau Hospital in a serious condition!. The other occupants are suffering from bruises and shock. Mr Mansfield, who resides on Wilson’s line, is a wool sliper.

CAR OVERTURNS IN SWAMP

OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE. AUCKLAND, February 1. A* sensational motor accident occurred a mile north of Mercer.at about 4 p.m. on Friday'. Mr F. H. Divan, of Wellington, was driving with his wife and two young children along the new road raised through the -swamp. Apparently owing to the potholes and loose the car failed to respond to the steering wheel ouui bend, and plunged oyer the embankment into the swamp. At this point the swamp is several feet .deep in water. With the first plunge the car fell on its side and was completely submerged, but it partially righted itself. This enabled Mr and Mrs Dwan to clamber out. The two young children were in the back seat at the time, asleep. All the distracted parents could see of one child was his legs above the water. Grasping these they managed to pull him into safety. . , Finally the family regained the road drenched to the skin and suffering from shock and a few cuts from broken glass. .._ Mr and Airs Dwan were on a holiday trip fropi Wellington, and were on the way to Auckland. The ear was later pulled out of the swamp
