Scholastic.—At the meeting of the North Canterbury Boaid ol Education yesterday, the following resignations were received: Miss. A. M. Parkin, mistress, Marnwiti; and Miss C. J. Junior National Scholarships.—At the meeting of the Board of Education in Christchurch yesterday, the chairman reported that the four Junior National Scholarships for the North Canterbury district had been allocated to Colin A. Hendry (Ashburton),' 583 marks; \V. O. R. Gil ling (Little River), 520 marks; Roy C. Parkle (Little Akaroa), 46/ marks; apd J. Ml O’Connor (Richmond), 542 marks. Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade. —The annual meeting of the Ashburton Volunter Fire Brigade was held last evening. Present: Captain T. Barber (in the chair), and about sixteen members. The resignation of Lieutenant R. Donn was held over in the meantime, and that he be ashed to reconsider his decision. The follow- . ing team was selected to represent the Ashburton Brigade at the annual competitions in Dunedin on March 8: Lieutenant H. Baker, Firemen I). Grant, W. Kidd, J. Hillgrove, J. Stephens, and F. Nicholls. Fireman Nicholls was re-elected secretary. A Plucky Rescue.—A lad named W. Ager got out of his depth in the Domain Baths to-day, and was rescued by a boy named Wonnac-ott in a much exhausted condition. Wonnacott is deserving of much paise for the plucky manner in which he rescued Ager.
