ENGAGEMENT OF ECONOMIST

LONDON, January 30. The Bank of England announces that Dr Sprague, (Professor of Banking and Finance at Harvard University), has consented to take up the work shortly to be relinquished by Mr Stewart, who tor the past two years has acted as economist and statistical adviser to the Governors of the Bank. Ccmniienting oni this appointment, the “Dailv Telegraph” says that it indicate;, not merely that there is to be continuity in the policy of co-Ppera-tion between the Bank of England and the Federal reserve system, but that the experiment lias been a success. Mr Stewart was at one time head of. the statistical division of the Federal Reserve Bank at Washington.
