MAWSON’S EXPEDITION

HIS AEROPLANE DAMAGED. (United Press Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY, January 20A wireless message from Sir Douglas Mawson states: — ‘•January 10: Incessant snow has limited the range of vision since the recent blizzard, and has suspended all hut biological and hydrographic work. Dredgings indicate that the continental shelf hereabouts is irregular, suggesting a subsidence of the former land surface. With- the rising temperature, ice chunks are falling from the rigging and have damaged the aeroplane wings, which are now being repaired. The weather promises an improvement, and wo have decided to stand to the north-east to investigate the now land discovered eastward of Kemp Land, which I propose io name Maeßobertson Land, in honour of the man to whom the expedition owes so much.”
