HORSES FOR TRENTHAM.

(Special to the "Guardian.")

WELLINGTON, January 17

In addition to Riccarton horses, this morning's steamer from Lyttelton brought several other southern competitors for Trentham. P. T. Hogan came with Night Lad, E. J. Ellis with Quinopal, and J. Ross with Meadow Lark.

N The Oamaru sprinter Meadow Lark had an unfortunate experience on the train journey yesterday. The door of the adjoining compartment in the horse-box had been left unfastened, and flew open in the Lyttelton Tunnel. The door was broken to splinters, which flew through the horse-box. The horse was much frightened, and received slight injuries, but the results might easily have been very serious, as flying splinters narrowly missed the horse and his trainer.
