MASSEY COLLEGE.
FOUNDATION STONE LAID. (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Dec. 4. This morning the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the new buildings at Massoy College was performed. by tlie Governor-General. Included in those present were the Hon. G. W. Forbes, the Hon. E. Newman; the Hon. G. J. Smith and Sir George Eowlds (chairman of the College Council). Later the Governor-General was entertained at lunch by the Borough Council. This; afternoon he will be accorded a farewell by the Speaking at the ceremony this morning, Sir George Fowlds. chairman of the college, said that he anticipated the time when there would be grouped round the building training colleges for teachers where they could imbibe an agricultural atmosphere which would better enable them to pass on to the children a bias in favour of agricultural pursuits, upon which the nrosperitv of the country must mainly denend for many years to come.
The college would not only give a scientific training to a large number of the future farmers of New Zealand, but would be expected to provide scientifically trained men for educational purposes-, for experts in the Agricultural Deoartment ' and for scientific research. When the present building programme had been completed and a commodious hostel provided, it, would be the most complete' agricultural college in the British Empire south of the equator.
