COMPLIMENTARY DINNER.
THE METHUEN TROTTING CLUB
To mark members’ appreciation of the work of their honorary officials, and in particular of their honorary timekeepers, Messrs Robilliard and Shearman, of Ashburton, the Methven Trotting Club gave a dinner f in thenhonour on Tuesday evening. The dinner was held at the Methven Hotel, and later the guests adjourned to the Public Hall, where a long toast-list was honoured and a programme of musical and elocutionary/items enjoyed. Unfortunately, Mr Shearman was unable to be present owing to illness. The president (Mr S. G. Holmes) presented an engraved cigarette case to Mr Robilliard. In doing so lie spoke in an appreciative manner ot the services! rendered to the club by Messrs Robilliard and Shearman, for many years honorary timekeepers to the Racing Club, and later to the Trotting Club. He also asked for Mi Robilliard to accept, on behalf of Mr Shearman, a handsome case of pipes. He expressed the hope that Mr Shearman would have a quick recovery from his illness and would long he spared to enjoy tlieir small token of appreciation. . , Mr Robilliard suitably responded on his behalf and also for Mr Shearman. Thomson and Dr. W. H. D. McKee; “Owners’ and Breeders’ Association,” proposed by Mr J. Dowling, replied to by Messrs T. H. McGirr, C. Goodwin and J. H. McKendrv- “Sports Clubs,” proposed by Mill! Green, replied to by Mr Jas. Campbell (golf), Mr G. Kelly (football), A. E Henderson (Bowling Club), Mr E. F* Ward (Gun Club), Mr G. Waddington (Miniature Rifles); “The Professions,” proposed by Mr Stanley Smith replied to by Dr. W. H. McKee and Mr J W M. Dart; “The Guarantors, proposed by Mr R. F. Renai. replied to bv Messrs W. Morgan and W. \\ . Goodwin; “The Ladies,” proposed by Mr J. McCloy, replied to hv Messrs F S. McDonald and M. A. Stone: “Club Secretaries,” proposed by Mr S. G. Holmes, replied to by Messrs J. F. Stone and J. B- Nieoll. Messrs W. S. Jones, M. A. Stone and A. E. Henderson contributed vocal items,’and Mr W. S. Jones acted as accompanist.
