TRIAL ENDS ABRUPTLY

SEQUEL TO TIMBER STRIKE.

CONSPIRACY CHARGE FAILS. a* SYDNEY, October 30. The trial of “Jock” Garden, C. Reeves, M. P. Ryan, and others, charged with conspiracy to molest and intimidate the free labourers in connection with the Timber V orkers Strike, concluded abruptly at the Criminal Court to-dav, when the foreman of the jury announced that the jurv was of ooinion that there was not sufficient evidence to warrant a conviction. All the men were acquitted and discharged.

The arrests of the alleged conspirators followed the stoning of the police by timber strikers during a mass picketing demonstration. As volunteer workers vero leaving the yards, 203 police were in attendance as escorts. Two thousands strike pickets, urged on by women, caused a disturbance, stones flying freely. The police succeeded in controlling the situation, though subjected to verbal abuse, while women spat at them.
