WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
HALF-YEARLY MEETING,
(Per Press Association.) PAHTATUA, October 30
The half-yearly meeting of the Council of the Women’s Institute, Wellington Provincial Federation, was held here yesterday. Over 130, comprising delegates and also Institute members were welcomed by the Mayor (Mr J. 1). Wilson) and Mrs Paterson (president of the local institute).
The president of the Federation (Mrs Waring Taylor) reviewed the work of the past half year. Delegates also gave reports. The principal resolutions were: That the Federation ask the National Council of Women to consider the advisability of urging Parliament to recognise and make use -of a women’s advisory committee for consultation on matters pertaining to women, the formation of such to be in the hands of the National Council; that institutes each choose a particular perennial flower and that every member plant the same in order that her centre may be specially notable for that bloom. The secretary of the Federation (Miss Crawford) donated a shield for a potato-growing competition among all institutes.
Mrs McCorkingdale (Feilding) gave a demonstration of pottery. Miss Spencer, chief organiser of the movement, briefly addressed the gathering, stressing the need for co-opera-tion among members. Mrs Waring Taylor and Mis's Spencer complimented the local branch on the admirable arrangements for the convention.
