GUILTY OF FORGERY.
WITHDREW BROTHER'S MONEY. (Special to the "Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, October 29. . An allegation that he stole his brother's post office savings book, forged a signature and withdrew £4o 10s, was made against Ernest Gray Roach, aged 22, in the Magistrate's Court this morning. Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., was on the Bench. Mr Bowie appeared for the accused. Harold Dickinson Roach stated that the accused, who was his brother, on Sunday, October 6, called at a-bach at New Brighton where witness was living Later, another man named Sawtell joined them. The accused and Sawtell remained until the following day. Witness went to work, and on returning in the evening found that his post office savings book was missing from his portmanteau. Witness identified a post office book produced as his property. It showed a withdrawal of £45 10s on October 7. The withdrawal was not made by witness nor by his authority, and a withdrawal slip, also produced, was not filled in bv Avitness. 'Maurice James Anderson, clerk, employed in the Christchureh money order office, stated that he examined the signature on the withdrawal slip, and considered it to be a good one. He paid out the amount shown on the Detective-Sergeant Young said that ho interviewed the accused at the detective office. With reference to the money found in his possession, the accused said that it was not part of the money received from the Post Office. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
