The monthly meeting of the vestry C f the Parochial District of Methven was" presided over by, ltev. Claud Brown. There were also present: Messrs H. Magmness, G. Cookson, I. Grant, J. OsWn, A. B. Adams S. Hyland, and R. H. Cranfield. Apologies were received from Messrs 1. »• Harrison, H. Green, and A. Gadd. The secretary reported that circulars, had been posted To parishioners, and it was decided to follow this up with a personal canvass. It was arranged to hold a working bee to prepare stalls, etc., for the harvest sale on Thursday. It was decided to hold a dance in the evening. Mr W. R. Owers was appointed MjC.

MAYFIELD

The monthly me§tipg of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the Band Hall last evening, the president (Mr J. Moore) presiding. Mr J. Price, of Ashburton, wrote ottering two guineas to the winner of an essay competition on “The Evils of Overstociiing.” The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Price thanking him for his donation and asking for some particulars. The Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association wrote stating that the local delegates would be to attend a meeting to be held in Ashburton to discuss the question of staging another district bav at the forthcoming Winter Show in* Christchurch. The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was willing to donate £7O to each district having a bay. Messrs J. Moore, J. A. Fleming, R. Oakley, C • Sewell, and H. C. Barton were appointed delegates. The Canterbury Sheepowners’ Union wrote, in reply to the Association’s letter recommending that the' Stock Act be altered to prohibit the moving of sheep after dark by lorries. The Sheepowners’ Union stated that it was fully in accord with the suggestion and would ask the Government to have the necessary steps taken. The, Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association wrote advising that its next show would be held on November 7. The next Mayfield Show is to be held on the third Saturday in March next. The committee approved the president’s action in instructing the secretary to write to the Railway Department pointing out the great inconvenience that would be caused if the telephone, installed in the ganger’s

charge of as the previous ganger had ' done. All’ M. O’Connor, of ltuapuna, was elected a member of the Association. The president and secretary were empowered to arrange the date of the annual meeting. Mr R. Oakley, who toured the North Island with the farmers’ excursion, returned home on Saturday. A meeting of bachelors and spinsters was held last evening, Mr L. Reveley presiding over a good attendance. The following committee was elected: — Misses B. Richardson, M. Paterson and Ellery, and Messrs J. Bjddick, K. and D. Dellow, S. Richardson, F. Mabley, J. Gibson and T. Garland (secretary). It was decided to hold the annual ball on Wednesday, July 17.

RAKAIA. The weather experienced at Rakaia during last • week was very mild and warm. Saturday was cloudy and in the evening rain fell heavily, continuing throughout the night and clearing early on Sunday morning. The rainfall for Saturday evening was 43 points. DOR lE. Rain was registered at Dorie on five davs during My. 77 points being the total recorded. Calm frosty weatheT was experienced during the latter part of the month. SEAFIELD. ' . / Another week was passed with an absence of cold winds and frosts, and everywhere in the Seafield district are to be seen green crops of early sown wheat and oats. Turnips, too, are showing good signs of a second growth, and will help materially with the winter feeding of ewes. WINCHMORE.

A very enjoyable and successful dance was held in the Winchmore Hall in aid of the “Busy Bees” Society. A Monte Carlo waltz -was won by Mrs Bland and partner. Music was supplied by Miss J. Macdonald, and extras were played by Mr and Mrs Cook, of Lyndhurst. An excellent supper was provided by the Winchmore ladies.
