SEEKING SETTLEMENT
THE TIMBER STRIKE. i OFFER BY MASTER BUILDERS. EMPLOYMENT UNDER GUARANTEE. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Appealing to the State Premier (Sir William McPherson) to settle the timber dispute as it affected the building industry, a deputation from the Melbpurne 'Master Builders' Association gave assurances that if the men were willing to return to work xinder a guarantee of continuity of service, that Association would undertake to find employment for- 10,000 builders' operatives on Monday. This number represents an increase of 25 per cent, on the number employed before the trouble began. The. deputation also indicated that there was a likelihood that work would be found for an additional 4000 men within a week.—Australian Press^Association. IMPRISONMENT FOR ASSAULT. SYDNEY, May 10. Three more men who were convicted of assaults on timber volunteefs were to-day sentenced at the Newtown Court to six months' imprisonment. — Australian Press Association.
