SPORT IN SCHOOLS.
DOMINATION IN AUSTRALIA.
AGAINST TRUE EDUCATION. (United Press Association—-Copyright.) (Received - This Day, 9.15 a.m.) VANCOUVER, April 10. A strenuous attack on professional sport was made before the National 'Council of Education by Mr L. B. Franklin, of Melbourne. The speaker showed how the influence of English public school sports had been encouraged to dominate school life in Australia. He beli'eved that • education should be extended to give power, strength, self r control and endurance of body, mind and spirit. He condemned the sort of sport carried on for money, and deplored enfjf.ging in sport for consideration of advertising or self-glorifi-cation. It was not important if boys win Olympic championships, but it was highly important that boys should receive the right kind of physical training. The private schools m Australia were modelled after the British system, which contributed to building of real character and manhood. Mr Robert Jahman (Britain) urged sound physical education. —Australian Press Association.
