TWO SUNS

PHENOMENON AT ROME.

DUE TO THE INTENSE COLD. SUPERSTITIOUS SEE A MIRACLE. (United Press Association— Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.5 p.m.) ROME, February 18. A remarkable, rare phenomenon was witnessed when two suns appeared in the sky. It was apparent when workers were coming into the streets at mid-day. Throngs turned their eyss skywards to see, in addition, to the actual sun, a bright luminous disc exactly the same size. The superstitious immediately declared it was a miracle, and a celestial sign recording the fact that Rome had now two kings or sovereigns—one temporal and one spiritual. Official astronomers quickly dispelled such fancies and informed the Romans that the phenomenon was not unfamiliar in the Arctic and Antarctic, but/it was exceptional that it should be seen in Rome, perhaps for the first time for centuries. _ Reflection from myriads oi tiny icvcles gathered in the sky during the intense cold and created an optical illusion. .. . The phenomenon lasted half an houi and then vanished.—Australian Press Association.
