NEW TRAFFIC BRIDGE.

THE dUESTION OF WIDTH. COUNCIL PRESSES FOR 22 FEET. The County Council to-day went into committee to consider the report on the negotiations with the Ashburton Borough Council and Tinwald Town Board with regard to the apportioning of the amount to be contributed by each body toward the cost of the new Ashburton traffic bridge. On resuming, it was decided that the Council insist on the width of the bridge being 22ft, instead of 20ft as suggested by the Highways Board. It was decided to write to Mr C. J. Talbot (South Island representative on the Highways Board) expressing appreciation of his efforts to obtain a £2 12s 6d for £1 subsidy for the new bridge, which was nearer the amount required. It was also decided to thank the Canterbury Progress League for its assistance in the same matter.
