THE LICENSING ISSUE
DEMANDS OF THE ALLIANCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 21. The question of licensing; legislation was reported on by the general secretary (Mr Edmond) at yesterday’s meeting of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Alliance. _ He also outlined the prospects of this question j being dealt with by Parliament during the coming session. Mr Edmond that, as far as the position could be judged by the Alliance, there was no weakening in the intention of any of their friends in the Reform group to have a Bill containing the two-issue ballot paper and bare majority clauses introduced. The Alliance conveyed to Mr Edmond, by resolution, its appreciation of the invaluable services rendered bv him to the cause of moral progress in connection with the passage of last vear’s Bill through the Lower House, its congratulations upon the moral victory achieved over the anti-social forces of the liquor traffic in the successive votes of members of the House, and its continued 1 confidence in him as representative of the prohibition' forces in all dealings' with the Prime Minister, the Government, and members of Parliament. Tiie Alliance reaffirmed the simple majority, and removed it« demand for the removal of the State Control issue. It was decided to use every endeavour to get the adoption of the two-issue ballot, paper .this session, and the stipulation that restoration will mean a reversion to conditions immediatelv prior to the . coming into force of National Prohibition, etc. The Prime Minister is to be aslced to receive a deputation for the purpose of placing the various decisions before him.
