POWER BOARD LOAN.

POLLING ON THURSDAY. THREE-FIFTHS MAJORITY REQUIRED. Polling on the Ashburton Electric Power Board’s proposal to raise £90,000 to carry out works will take place throughout the County on Thursday. A good deal of interest has been aroused in the loan through meetings held in practically every centre, and it is anticipated that there will be a substantial poll. Polling places will be established in the most convenient centres, and as there will be 41 of them, ratepayers, wherever they reside, will not have to journey far to record their votes. There will be one vote for each ratepayer in town or country, except in cases where business men will vote on behalf of companies in which they are

interested. A three-fifths majority is required to carry the loan. Ratepayers residing in any part of the County may vote at any polling booth in borough or country. The voting paper will bear the two issue—for the loan and against the loan—and the voters must strike out the issue he desires to vote against. Voting will commence at 9 o’clock and will conclude at 6 o’clock. The first results are expected to reach the returning officer (Mr H. G. Kemp) at the Power Board office about 6.30 p.m. and the final result should be known by 8.30.
