STRUCK AN ICEBERG.
CANADIAN STEAMER DAMAGED

With her bows badly buckled and the fore part of the main deck smashed to matchwood, the Canadian Pacific liner Montrose arrived at Liverpool, the captain reporting that she had been in collision with an iceberg in a dense fog 800 miles from the Canadian Coast. ,ii n Jj. Two of the crow were killed and two passengers injured. The impact was terrific. Fortunately the sea was calm, and there was no panic.—Australian Press Association.
CAPTAIN'S PROMPT DECISION. HUGE DOUBLE BERG. (Received This Day, 1.12 P.-™-) LONDON, April 15. The Montrose was steaming slowly when a huge double iceberg loomed m the fog. It towered above the ships masts said a passengeer. Captain Lundy had to decide whether to go between the two parts of the icebergs and risk the ship's sides being ripped open or go direct for one of the bergs. Without hesitating he took the latter course. The ship quivered and rocked ominously. Wireless messages were sent out. The passengers went quietly to their stations. The captain slowly backed the ship, and within 30 minutes the oassengers were informed that there was no immediate dager, and they could discard thir lifebelts. Before disembarking the passengers assembled on the upper deck and cheered the captain.—United Service.
