LATE SPORTS.
PIGEON SHOOTING. THE METHVEN - CHUB. The Methven Gun Club opened the new season on the Mount Harding, racecourse on Saturday afternoon in perfect weather. In addition to a full, muster of members there were i*epresentatives of other clubs: and visitors., from Christchurch. The shooting conditions were excellent, there being no wind and a splendid light. With these advantages theshooting was of a high standard. The programme commenced with a six clay bird match for a sweepstake. Five competitors broke the full quota, and divided the stake. Details are:— J. Garden 211111—6 C. C. Winn 211112—6 S. H. Anderson ... 211221—6 G. A. Franks ...... 112112—6 W. J. Cooksley ... 121111—6 For the President’s Cup there were 16 competitors and taken all round this was a very excellent competition. Ward, the /winner, holds the cup for the first time, the trophy not having been won outright last season. An additional trophy for the best first barrel performance was won by A. Bray, of Ashburton.. The individual scores are:— W. J. Cooksley ... 11111121122111—14 E. F. Ward ... 21121111112111—14 In the shoot-off for the cup between Ward and Cooksley the former won on the fourth round. The stake money was divided. A 12-Bird Handicap for a silver cup, with an added sweepstake, resulted:— L. C. Anderson ... 11H111111H —12 T. S. Harrison ... 212111112111 —12 In the shoot-off between L'. Anderson and T. Harrison the former won on the 11th round after keen shooting.
GOLF.
HAREWOOD y. ASHBURTON. The Ashburton Golf Club visited the Harewood Club over the week-end. On Saturday afternoon a four-ball bogey match was played, the visitors afterwards being entertained at a smoke concert in the club house. Yesterday the inter-club match for the HarewoodAshburton Cup was played, Harewood being successful. This is the third time that the cup has been played for, it being won by Harewood, at Harewood, in May, 1927 and by Ashburton at Ashburton, in September, 1927.
